Blog

So, my brother's blog. I like it.
Here is a link to it, for those of you who want a frame of refrence. And check it out. It is cool and full of useful information.

http://blog.scifi.com/tech/

I'll start with the low end details and go up from there. The backgroud is a nice colour. There aren't a lot of ads. In fact, I think there is only one. Just printed 3 times. That is nice not to be bombarded by ads. I suppose, because it is a Blog, they wanted to keep it simple. Hence solid colouring, a few basic ads. Good. Flashiness will then take away from the content. Which is the whole point.

I am not computer savy, but I found the site quite easy to navigate. I think any basic computer user could look for information on the site. The menu on the right doesn't feel quite right. I think it is missing something. Maybe it's the font. I don't know. Hot Topics I would move. Most sites tend to have that stuff as the fore-front of their page. But maybe that's not what they want. Despite my objections to the above, it very much looks and organized and presented to look like a blog. Which it is. So, it does work.

Have I read any of the blogging? A few. I like the blogs short and sweet. Once you bring in Techno-babble, the regular Joe might tune it out and not pay attention to what they are reading. The posts are just long enough to keep a person reading. Also, it is interesting to read about gadgets and gizmos that I will never come across. Unless I was in New York. And some of it, I wish I could get here. The Sony all in one system would be nice.

I'm still not sure about the RSS thing. I don't know what that is all about. Maybe someone can explain it to me.

I think that is about it. Not a lot of flash but the content is there. It does almost seem to be a bit empty. It feels like there should be more. But the site is new. I think the growth of the blog will come in time.

So, anybody who didn't click the link, scroll back up and check it out. Ignore everything I wrote and cast your own opinions. Maybe make a comment on what you thought of the site. Hey, you can email my bro and tell him what you think. I'm sure he'd love the feedback.

Hot topics should be at the top right of the screen, between the welcome and the sections. The eye is drawn to the sidebar on the right, and "Hot Topics" will be overlooked if it is on the left, particularly when it's halfway down the page.

The "bit on MPEG-4" should probably just be a subsection under "Tech Decrypter" in the sections. I'm not sure why it's mentioned separately. But if it needs to be mentioned separately, as a topic of interest or some such thing, perhaps it could be at the top left. Again, it just gets lost halfway down the page.

Otherwise, a pretty good site. Cool gadgets, brief but descriptive entries, fun to read. I like it!
